Carved maple. This piece was made in 2012 during the Wingate Artist Residency at SUNY Purchase. It was made from a tree that blew down on campus during hurricane Sandy. I began by making a large beam and then using a chainsaw and plunge-cutting into the side of the beam I "cored" out the six small pyramids from the beam. Them I ripped the beam into six boards revealing the cross-sections of the plunge-cuts at different depths.
